The Tokyo Motor Show show for passenger vehicles takes place every two years, in alternation with the commercial vehicles show.
The Tokyo show always presents a huge variety of concept vehicles from the Japanese manufacturers, ranging from serious production proposals to some quite bizarre 'lifestyle' concepts, as well as providing a unique view of the world automotive industry.
The Media Preview days have seen the surprise debuts of the Nissan GT-R concept and Volkswagen W12. Other concept vehicles included the 'network vehicle' Nissan Ideo, the architectural Honda Unibox, Mercedes F400 Carving, Toyota Pod, and a family of concepts from Mitsubishi.
