Dec 31, 2001 - First it was the Sports Utility Pack (S.U.P.), designed by Mitsubishi Motors with the young, techno-savvy, urbanite in mind. Now comes the S.U.P Cabriolet, catering to an even more playful, spirited and extroverted personality, S.U.P. Cabriolet stands for casual fun.
The S.U.P. Cabriolet elaborates on the concepts sun-loving nature by adding a convertible top and hideaway rear glass. With the top down, the interior becomes an open-air social space for occupants who understand that adventure can begin in the driveway. S.U.P. Cabriolets dynamic interior design matches the lifestyle of those immersed in a world of technology, and daydream of weekend escapes to exotic places.
Like the S.U.P. before it, the Sports Utility Pack Cabriolet relies on waterproof upholstery, semi-transparent door panel totes, seatback-mounted backpacks, and even a freshwater shower to meet the challenges of outfitting for the quest for adventure.
The S.U.P. Cabriolet concept is powered by an environmentally friendly, all-wheel drive, hybrid mechanism, utilising an efficient Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine and an Integrated Starter and Alternator (ISA) motor which powers the front wheels. In addition, two electric motors power the rear wheels on demand.
The compact size and reduced weight of the GDI-ISA plus rear motor driving system allows designers to utilize a flat floorpan chassis layout to help maximize the usefulness of the interior space.
