Peugeot Sesame concept
by Nick Hull

The Peugeot Sésame makes its public debut today at Paris Motor Show and represents Peugeot’s concept for a future small car to replace the 11 year old 106.

Based on PSA’s new ‘Platform One’, the Sesame offers a striking new proportion for such a small vehicle. At some 3700 mm long and 1630 tall, it is around 100mm taller than current B-Segment cars such as the Citroen C3 or Honda Jazz. With the A-pillars pushed far forward over the front wheels and an upright rear, the cabin volume is maximised to provide a very spacious and airy cabin for city driving.

The focal aspect centres upon two sliding side doors around which the structure takes shape. The size of each powered sliding side door represents almost a third of the length of the whole vehicle and provides generous access to all four seats, even in the tightest parking conditions.

The side view appears rather dominated by the large door handles and sliding door rail which continues around the rear of the vehicle, splitting the arrow-shaped taillamp and rear quarter window graphic. To reinforce the leisure and relaxation aspect of Sésame, the streamlined spare wheel cover is sited in the centre of the rear panel.

The interior is trimmed in dark blue with bright yellow inserts and features a new raised gearshift and centre console position. Four individual seats are provided, which can flip/fold forward to extend the luggage capacity.
