September 16, 2002 - Following on from the huge success of the 206 CC, Peugeot is following up with a larger 307 CC at Paris Motor Show, initially in concept car form.

Using the same form of convertible steel hard top as the 206 CC, the 307 CC offers a true Coupé, a real Cabriolet and a vehicle with four standard-size seats, taking its place alongside the existing 307 models of 3 and 5 door hatchback and SW estate.

Length is increased to 4.32 m, an increase of 120 mm, due to the extension of the rear overhang compared to the hatchback. The wheelbase of 2.61 m is retained for the benefit of the occupants’ comfort and the overall height of 1,44 m is almost 100 mm less than on the 307 hatchback.

Other changes to the standard 307 include the windscreen, which is lower and more raked and the front bumper, which is of a more angular design, featuring a larger skirt and wider grille intake. This lower grille is also fitted with a silver bar equipped with two extra spotlamps.

With the roof up, the assembly formed by the roof, the windscreen pillars and the rear screen produces an elegant elliptical form with very neat shutlines. Considering the lofty height of the hatchback 307, this is a notable achievement. The large arched roof features an unusually curved rear screen, which extends high up into the roof surface.

Roof down, the 3Y7 CC is very clean, with an uninterrupted rising waistline and very smooth rear deck. All side windows drop totally into the body.

The automatically locking steel roof folds and unfolds electrically, as on the 206 CC. When folded under the bootlid, the rear screen, which is slightly angled, allows improved access to the boot to allow loading of luggage.

The large bootlid incorporates a distinctive kick-up at the trailing edge to form a built-in spoiler, which also houses the third brake light. The large cherry-red rear lights continue the familiar Peugeot parallelogram form running onto the bootlid, as on models such as the 406 Coupe. The indicator, stop light and tail light functions are LED type arranged in a bright, fan-like graphic. The 307 CC features 18’’ chrome-plated alloy wheels in a six spoke design.

The interior can accommodate four persons, and features the original 307 fascia panel and centre console. The upper fascia and door tops are in cherry red while the lower fascia, console and doors are trimmed with a beige leather which is also found on the four seats. These seats are trimmed with red in the centre of the cushion, the seat back and the head restraint. Each integral rear head restraint has a non-return device with a roll-over bar protecting all the occupants in the event of an emergency. Bright alloy inserts are featured on the console, vents, steering wheel, gearknob and pedals. To finish it off, the instruments are white faced.

The showcar is equipped with a 16-valve 2.0L 4 cylinder developing almost 180bhp (130kW). In production, any number of existing 307 engines and transmissions could be offered.
