Vision in automotive design was honored at the third annual Eyes On Design / Awards on Tuesday, January 7. It was the first time the prestigious automotive design awards, judged solely by automotive design professionals, were presented at the North American International Auto Show in the Michigan Hall of Cobo Center during Press Preview Days.

Fabrizio Giugiaro, director of style and the Style Center of ItalDesign-Giugiaro S.p.A., graciously stood in for his father, Giorgetto Giugiaro, chairman of ItalDesign-Giugiaro S.p.A., Honorary Chairman of the Eyes On Design / Awards, who had to return to Italy on urgent business. Dr. Roberto Piatti, managing director, Stile Bertone S.p.A., also participated in the event.

"These unique and prestigious awards are the only ones in the world judged by an independent panel of peers and we are delighted to have them as part of the show," said Rod Alberts, executive director, North American
International Auto Show. "They add another distinguishing element to this vital automotive event."

The 15 award categories celebrate a comprehensive range of automotive design including concept and new production vehicles, exterior and interior, awards for Best Design Enabler, Best Exhibit Design, Best Concept and Production Vehicles and Best of Show.

A 40-member judging panel drawn from among practicing automotive designers, design school faculty and student designers from around the world selected the best vehicle designs, using the same aesthetic and functional criteria designers use when plying their profession in studio settings.
