Bertone Birusa concept

Based on the platform of the BMW Z8, this large coupe concept car shows the flexibility of the aluminium spaceframe platform and the scope for a manufacturer
such as BMW to produce two very disparate products at little extra cost.

Featuring innovative gullwing doors that hinge around the A-pillar and a side DLO broken by a chrome feature line, this dramatically proportioned coupe is unlikely to make production, but illustrates how a company such as Bertone might help client OEMs realise a new vehicle design in a cost effective way.

Opel GTC Genéve concept

Unveiled by GM's Bob Lutz and Opel Design chief Martin Smith, the Opel GTC is aconcept car that gives a clear indication of Opel's future design direction.

The car in particular shows what Opel are considering for the forthcoming Astra replacement and features the clearly defined creases and sheer surfaces that are becoming typical of modern Opel design.

The concept has a windscreen that runs into the roof to create seamless view from the inside, and headlights and tailights 'that resemble the polished facets of a jewel'.

Nissan Evalia concept

The Evalia is a concept from Nissan's London design studio that preludes the forthcoming lower medium Almera replacement.

The car is a spacious four seater car with the profile of a one and a half box, low roofed MPV. Themes from the 350Z and Primera are evident in both exterior and interior and the new Nissan corportate facial identity has been developed to feature a broad central section running full depth through the front.

Lamborghini Gallardo

Powered by a mid-engined 5 litre V10, the four wheel drive Gallardo looks likely to have similar performance to its bigger brother, the Murciélago. This will enable this new 'baby' Lamborghini to compete directly with the 360 Modena from Ferrari.

The design has been credited to Fabrizio Giugiaro of Ital design, the first time the famous design house has been responsible for a production Lamborghini and the first time Giorgetto Giugiaro has passed on the design credit to his son.

Lancia Ypsilon

Based on a Fiat Punto platform, the new Ypsilon continues themes established by its predecessor and offers a distinctive alternative to mainstream small cars.

Now with the Lancia corporate facial identity, defined by the large Thesis, the Ypsilon has a large traditional grille that stands separate to it headlamps and signifies its intention to be a small luxury car.

Inside the car maintains the centre mounted instrument binnacle of its predecessor and the use of rich colour and trim materials.

Alfa Romeo GT Coupe

The GT Coupe makes its international debut at Geneva. It has been designed at Bertone and features a new variation on the Alfa face.

Due to go on sale at the end of the year, the car is based on the 156 just as the 1960's GT was based on its saloon sibling. As such it sets out to compete with cars such as the BMW 3 series coupe and Mercedes CLK and restablish Alfa Romeo in a niche it was once so prominent in.
