Feb 24, 2003 - Officially, Pininfarina say their new show car for the Geneva Motor Show is a two-seater sports car to be called Enjoy. The rendering and the name say it all about the compact and light sports car that immediately led us to think of the nimble and very entertaining Lotus Elise.
As with the earlier design of the Lotus the Pininfarina Enjoy features the open wheel design of a fancy junior formula car ready for club racing. Add proper fenders front and rear and there you are with a very light roadster car sitting very low to the ground with the lowest possible centre of gravity. The engine is clearly installed ahead of the rear axle, moving the fat real wheels.
You would think of a small Ferrari or Maserati but according to our sources the Pininfarina Enjoy is fitted with a four-cylinder engine of some 2000 cc of displacement with anything between 165 and 180 HP. An Alfa Romeo? Maybe, but we do not think this is likely. A sports car like this at this time will only add confusion to the product planning of Alfa Romeo.
What is it than? Well, first of all it is a Pininfarina and as far as the powertrain goes there are several makers around the world offering what the Enjoy needs, from Peugeot and Citroen to Honda and Toyota but after all it could well be a new Lotus. Or an X-Power by MG?
Wait and see what Pininfarina will say when the Geneva Motor Show opens its gates at the Palexpo.
