Making it's debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the second-generation 3 Series Compact will be the fifth and final member of the BMW 3 Series family.

With the same wheelbase as the sedan, but with a 21cm shorter overall length, the Compact retains the distinctively short overhangs of the previous model.

The latest interpretation of the BMW 'face' is unusual and quite a departure from the 3 series sedan, with small lamps and partially rounded, partially squared off lamp shapes. BMW is certainly exploring every possible variation on their family face.

The rear lamps also have an unusual transparent look, similar to the Lexus IS300. These departures from previous BMW themes is not what one would expect from the usually evolutionary approach of BMW design.

The interior quality mirrors the high standards found in the new 3 Series. Access to the rear seats has been improved and the choice of colours for both interior and exterior has been expanded to offer an unparalleled selection. Safety as always remains a priority and with the option of up to eight airbags, the new Compact is poised to raise the standards of the premium hatchback sector to new heights.

Initially, two models will be available. The entry-level 316ti has a 116 bhp four-cylinder engine, whilst the more powerful 325ti, the performance flagship of the range, features BMW’s refined 2.5 litre straight six-cylinder 192 bhp engine.
