Feb 25, 2001 - Renowned car designer and engineer Leonardo Fioravanti is going to surprise visitors of the Geneva Show with the very attractive design of a two seater spider that could be one of the sports cars Alfa Romeo and GM keep talking about.

It is called Vola and it is ready to integrate quite a number of technical options: front or real wheel drive; rear wheel drive. Obviously this is not a design commissioned to Fioravanti by the Italo-American group. In this case it would be kept as a top secret design proposition.

On the contrary it is a show-car developed by Fioravanti with the official aim of demonstrating a brilliant and simple suggestion about converting a two-seater coupe into a convertible.

“So far the option of conveniently removing and storing the hard top has seen very interesting but also complex solutions”, says Fioravanti. His proposal introduces a new concept that is fascinating for its simplicity. In Fioravanti’s design the roof is not folded and stored in what is supposed to be the luggage compartment, but rather the roof is rotated backwards and kept on top of the luggage compartment. To express this function Fioravanti has applied a very graphic design, clearly showing with two big hinges performing the rotating mechanism of the system.

Here their design is aimed at focusing the visitor attention on the essence of the design concept. They will have a hard job to do because the body design of the car, as well as its interior, are not irrelevant at all. The roadster's design actually has the spirit, size and style of a beautiful Alfa Romeo and is positively a crowd-stopper.
