Feb 20, 2001 - I.DE.A. Institute of Moncalieri (Torino, Italy) is completing a superlative Limousine that is bound to make a lot of noise at the Geneva Show despite its very silent motors. The cars come with 8 electric motors, each one applied to one of the 8 wheels the limousine will be running on.
The prototype is called KAZ (Keio Advanced Zero-emission vehicle) and has been developed by the Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) within the CREST (Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology), in conjunction with the Keio University.
The big limousine is reportedly very stable, agile and nimble to drive with six of its driving wheels also participating to the steering function. Steering is likely to be of the steer-by-wire type recently demonstrated by BMW and a few other systems manufacturers.
The very unusual style of this research vehicle is the work of I.DE.A. Institute designers. The entire process from design sketches to prototype manufacturing is the work of the renowned Italian design and engineering house.
