Feb 25, 2001 - MINI One, the 90bhp entry-level MINI, makes its world debut at next weeks Geneva International Motor Show. The MINI has so far only been displayed as the higher-level MINI Cooper model.
Powered by a four cylinder, 16-valve , 1.6-litre engine, the entry-level MINI One has a 0-62 mph time of 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 115mph. Maximum torque of 140Nm (101 lb ft) at 3,000 rpm, gives MINI One an excellent mid-range punch.
Handling will be the MINIs strongest suit of all with its wheel-at-each-corner design, direct steering, multi-link rear axle and a vary rigid body.
Disc brakes all round (ventilated at the front), anti-lock brakes, rear screen wiper, chrome headlight rims and door handles, remote control central locking, a six-speaker sound system, and electric windows and mirrors are all part of the standard specification of the MINI One.
The ability to personalise your Mini has always been a key part of the brand and a wide choice is available for the new MINI. As well as the items mentioned above there are three options packages for buyers to choose from, called Salt, Pepper and Chili.
Salt will be available on MINI One, offering practical features for driver and passengers. It includes parcel nets behind the front seats, an interior lights package, to help loading and unloading at night, and front fog lights. Two interior design features are also included with a rev counter positioned on the steering column and silver trim throughout.
Pepper gives the MINI Cooper a little extra heat. As with Salt, parcel nets, a silver interior, interior lights and fog lamps are included, with the addition of chrome inlays for the bumpers.
Chili gives the MINI Cooper a real sporty edge. Fabric and leather sports seats with extra side support and a leather steering wheel complement the interior styling. Sports suspension, 16" aluminium wheels and a roof spoiler add to the exterior appearance.
