Mercedes SV Class
Bern Donadeu Sans José Mateo Muñoz Villar
The Mercedes SV Class is a model based on the structure of the well-known Mercedes Vito.

It embodies the concept of a luxurious car designed for the world of managers and executives, the world of business. This sort of car is often used to pick up executives from the airport and take them to the enterprise or hotel, and its inward design (space, comfort, plain shapes and wide range of technological sources) is also suitable to prepare for or even have a meeting.
For the exterior design, the goal was to move away from the stereotype of a van. A strongly arched profile was used to achieve this. At first sight, the car seems to be in the size range of the Mercedes A Class, but the SV Class is longer (5 m long). The arch allows the height to be increased so that passengers can get in without lowering their heads. The outline gives the Mercedes SV Class an innovative but aggressive image which also tries to reflect the personality of any manager.
The interior is divided into three areas: the drivers area (with central driving), the business room and the boot. The vehicle is asymmetric since the passengers always get in the car from the left side, while the driver enters from the right. This gives some advantages to the interior layout, and a strong aesthetic appeal to its exterior.
Volvo RCC (Recycling Concept Car)
Virgilio Fernández Hernández
The Volvo RCC represents an innovating concept of Volvos style, user and duty for the year 2010. The project, based on the Scandinavian culture, adds alternative, recyclable and reusable materials to the structural design of the vehicles.
The car shows the amalgamation of contrasts in these aspects:
- its construction: it makes use of recyclable materials such as board, or reusable such as the aluminium alloy.
- its safety: it has an area which can be deformed and another one which cannot.
- its design: it has a standardised area and another one which can be shaped following the users taste.
In short, it is a proposal for people who are young, dynamic, responsible and concerned about the environment.
Mitsubishi Space Lynger
Diego Gómez Esmerado Josep Lluís Mas Bo
The Mitsubishi Space Lynger is a vehicle carrier which stands for the values of the brand within a familiar sphere, but on the mechanical basis of the Mercedes V Class. The project arose to satisfy the needs of different groups of people with something in common: the care for nature, the admiration for the landscape, warm moments, a journey within a good atmosphere and the desire to change every moment inside their vehicle into something special.
At the very beginning, the model had a kind appearance that invited you to get in. You could discern a glazed structure surrounded by another which was made out of metal. It was a medium sized vehicle which called the attention of people from very different environments such as the members of a conservative family or a total freak.
The project has been highly influenced by the architectural style of Frank O. Gehry and, more specifically, by one of his best known projects, the Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao, and by the plain and integrated style that the range of Nokia items share.
You can feel the interiors character in the way it surrounds the passengers, sharing the journey with them and almost offering them a panoramic view. The seats are suspended as if levitating, and the lights and shadows that emerge from its uneven floor give the passenger peace and quietness.
Entrance zone to the Airbus A380: Enjoy your Trip
Giuseppe Busalacchi - Àlex Caparrós Jorge - Josep Lluís Mas Bo - Maiol Rodríguez Macías
The project consists of the design of a new approach to using the access areas of the latest product of Airbus, the A380. It suggests an alternative use of these areas so as to facilitate the passengers movements during the flight.
The team started from the motto: The journey begins the moment the passenger boards the plane. An area with a double function has been proposed: one as an 'entrance zone' and another as a 'show area'. In the 'show area', the passenger undergoes new sensations and experiences thanks to a sensorial provocation caused by a virtual cut in the shape of a ring on the planes fuselage.
The design is based on the treatment of surfaces, images, light, colours and materials. This changes the place into an ideal area to relax and interact between the passengers, thus cutting down the possible inconveniences arising in long journeys.
The 'Moving Shapes' exhibition will run until February 28 at Elisava School of Design. Later, it can be seen at the S.A.D. Exhibition in the annex hall of the Louvre museum in Paris from May 4-14.
Elisava School of Design
The Elisava course is regarded as a competitive option to the other major design courses given in Europe. This fact has been reflected in the projects and on the strong job prospects of the Masters graduates.
The programme is a one-year course which aims to produce professionals with strengths in innovation, and skills in up-to-date computer and modelling tools. The Masters students undertake projects which investigate new concepts for the design of air, water and road transport, and they explore the interior and exterior of each vehicle.
One of the crucial aspects of the development and approach to the masters is the contribution of the business world to the course. The course has benefitted from the close cooperation with Rücker Ibérica engineering. Other industry collaboration partners include Airbus, SEAT, Artyplan and Dycosa.
Elisava is a pioneer in the teaching of design in Spain. The school was set up in 1961 and is part of CIC Cultural Institution, a private foundation.
Elisava, assigned to the University Pompeu Fabra since 1995, offers university studies, masters and postgraduate courses. The institution courses include Architecture, Engineering and Industrial Design. The postgraduate programmes include: Masters in Design of Goods Vehicles, Masters in Design of Multimedia Interfaces and Masters in Design and Public Space.
The school has bilateral agreements with colleges in Europe, USA and Latin America. Elisava is the only school in Spain which takes part in the Cumulus design schools association, which gathers together the best-known centres in each country.
