The degree students from the three year bachelor programme were showing their 10 week final degree works in Industrial Design, and the two year Masters programmes presented their 20 week final degree works.
From January to May, seven students have developed their final graduation projects to obtain the Masters Degree in Transportation Design, working in close cooperation with the industry, in some cases on internal work at the design studios. The students presented a range of projects dealing with transportation industry demands and future visions of mobility.
Jens Christian Møller presented Volkswagen Quadrun, a family sports car for 10-15 years in the future, meeting the demands of being a sports car, giving the driver a sports car experience, and at the same time meeting the demands of being a family car, accepting four passengers, and handling everything from the baby carriage to IKEA boxes. The car has been designed with optimal driving characteristics and sufficient interior space in mind. The stepped beltline allows for a dynamic appearance, while still allowing children to see out. The all-glass roof together with the angular body profile presents a unique character. The body uses a composite monocoque, and the rigidity this brings allows large gull-wing doors to be used, adding an exotic touch.
Demian Horst's SAAB Future City passion is a fun car designed to provide a better travelling experience in a fututre urban scenario. The vehicles telematic system features an advanced navigation layer displayed on the wraparound cockpit visor. It also uses the surrounding urban environment as a rich source of entertainment, where according to the passengers interests, city landmarks and opportunities are highlighted on the visor. The vehicle features a unique hardtop roof system, with the entire glass visor moving down to a minimal 'information display' level.
Mitsubishi Bora by Duncan Phillpotts is a sporting coupe designed around the needs of the mature driver. The car contains features that will make it easier to use for young and old. For easier access the car has a flat floor with no sill, large scissor doors, and a high roof. The seats move sideways and also rotate towards the door. The theme reflects mitsubishi's sporting heritage and is styled to appeal to the younger buyer, which together with it's functional aspects should improve it's appeal to a broad market.
'Wahnsinn' by Jiro Arborgh is a fuel cell motorcycle for the Urban Rebel, investigating a new aesthetic that communicates exciting new technology. The challenge was to try to stretch the conventional image of the motorcycle without losing the essence of motorcycle culture. The concept has sportier 'naked bike' characteristics, technical statements in suspension, drive unit and the riders environment. It was developed with guidance from designers at BMW Motorrad.
