The Pforzheim Transportation Design courses lead to BA and MA degrees. The exhibition included work from graduating Diploma and Masters students, exterior and interior projects by the 5th and 7th semester students, as well as work from students in the earlier stages of the Diploma and Masters courses. Projects by the graduating Diploma students (four year course) included:
New Choreography of Motorsport
Elmar Reich
The project was based on a scenario where natural resources are limited. Through rationalization and higher efficiencies, personal transportation continues to be viable, and new vehicle categories continue to be developed, using alternative energies. The concept is a hydrogen-powered one-seater Audi sports vehicle aimed at ecologically friendly fun-parks, where the focus is not on maximum speed, but on the 'choreography' of driving, as in extreme sports or motorbike trials. The front and rear sections swivel through 360 degrees, allowing the vehicles wheel units to rotate to any landing position during jumps, creating a spectacular new type of motorsport.
Cross-country Coupé for Mercedes Benz
Tobias Sühlmann
This off-road sports vehicle combines the driving characteristics of a sports car with the off-road capability and robustness of an SUV. Along with classic coupe proportions, it features a higher seating position, and the hard accents of an off-roader. The vehicle is packaged tightly around the driver, and is envisaged as a luxury vehicle for fun with references to vehicles used in the Paris Dakar or Baja rallies, and also aims for a feeling similar to a luxury powerboat.
The Aesthetics of Function
Jörg Maluschka
The project is the conceptual expression of a sports car in which the exterior, interior and technical elements are strongly connected. Through this the inner workings are exposed, and the technical elements bcome a major part of the aesthetics of the vehicle. The driver is at the focus and emotional center of this assymetric vehicle, all elements arranged with reference to the driver, with the aim of defining a new type of driving experience.
'EisZeit' - Mobility in extreme cold conditions
Nico Mühr
What would happen if there was a new Ice Age? With shrinking ice caps threatening to change the course of the Gulf Stream which is responsible for the mild climate of the northern hemisphere, scientists have forecast scenarios where Europe would suffer extreme low temperatures for an extended time. The concept proposes a new type of vehicle for personal mobility in this new environment.
Mercedes G
Jan Of
The aim of the project was to develop a successor to the current Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The new vehicle should continue the character of the old model, as a classless vehicle with very high levels of off-road capability. The design is based largely on form-follows-function, with the shape of every part based on its function. The vehicles efficiency would be improved with a new hybrid motor, along with a roof that can be lowered for on-road use, and raised for better vision when off-road.
