TVR T350C
The T350C is a new coupe from TVR, the maverick Blackpool based sports car company owned and run by Peter Wheeler.
True to the TVR brand, the T350C is powered by in house straight six 350bhp engine that takes it from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and on to a 180mph top speed, and has a voluptuously sculptured composite body totally unlike that of any other sports car brand.
Damian McTaggart has designed a TVR with tighter and more simple forms than the extrovert Tuscan, and one with cleaner detailing and less of the slightly sagging surfaces of the Tamora launched last year. One confident, unbroken volume starts at the exceptionally low front and sweeps around the recessed bonnet aperture into the front wings. The leading edge of the door sits within this surface and pushes out and back into the rear wing to make the second simple volume that stops abruptly at the kamm tail rear.
The side window graphic is bound by a lower edge that moves from convex to concave as you walk around the car and tapers unusually into a fine point at the base of the C pillar, which visually lengthens the car. Separate roll bars inside the cabin mean that the C-pillars need bear no crash loads and so are able to be very thin giving a delicate feel to the upper body.
Inside the T350C is the same as the Tamora that it is based on, with an incredibly unique, leather clad TVR interior that features only bespoke controls and instrumentation.
This car may not have the finish of a Boxster or conform to all the accepted rules of automotive form language in the way that a TT might and most other brands attempt to. But whilst this independent British car brand continues to produce cars as exciting as the T350, the world of car design will be a richer place.
