Exciting design solutions from individuals, companies and students have been submitted as computer generated drawings, two-dimensional drawings or models in scale or full-size form.
Those individuals selected to continue with the 2004 Challenge will be notified in the next weeks. Selected designs will be considered for display at the 2004 North American International Auto Show through the Michelin Challenge Design exhibit.
The 2004 challenge has a focus on designing for the specific needs of the emerging Chinese market. Designers from around the globe are being challenged to create vehicles that can successfully answer the accelerating demands for the growing Chinese automotive market.
Chinas automotive market is rapidly growing, with an increasing percentage of its population owning automobiles, said John Grimaldi president, Passenger and Light Truck Original Equipment Tires Worldwide for Michelin Group. China has a unique opportunity to leap frog traditional technology and map out an automotive industry and roadway infrastructure that is environmentally sensitive, consumer-friendly and technically advanced. It is a perfect choice for Michelin Challenge Design event.
The Michelin Challenge Design is open to all designers around the globe from students to seasoned professionals. In 2003, more than 125 designs from 40 countries were submitted with works from 13 countries displayed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
If you have missed this opportunity to participate in the 2004 Michelin Challenge Design, the entry process for the 2005 Challenge will begin later this year. The 2005 Michelin Challenge Design will display vehicles and vehicle designs that demonstrate the influence of German Design, the events, people and icons that have inspired the automotive design community.
Designers from around the world will again be invited to submit work that is in concert with the German Design ethic that will be featured in the exhibit. "From the influence of the Bauhaus School of Design in the evolution of the profession of industrial design to their renowned expertise in marrying form and function, Germany has had a tremendous influence on automotive design since the beginning," said John Grimaldi.
Further information on the 2005 Challenge will be available later this year on the Michelin Challenge Design Web site: www.MichelinChallengeDesign.com
