June 23, 2003 - Go Digital, the worlds first international automotive digital design competition, has begun its second stage as the short-listed finalists now develop their digital models for the August 1st deadline.

In its inaugural year, Go Digital has received design submissions from 43 different countries around the world, fulfilling its aim to demonstrate how vehicle design has evolved to a new form of design with no geographical boundaries.
The quality as well as the quantity of submissions far exceeded expectations, but 10 professional designers and 10 non-professional designers have now been notified that they are competition finalists. They will continue to progress their original digital models using one of their finalists prizes of a limited version of Opticore Realizer software, which enables photo-realistic models to be quickly realized and moved in real-time.
After submission of the final design proposals in the form of digital models, Go Digitals 13 senior automotive designers will then judge the work throughout August, using a new software tool created specifically for design managers called Opticore Arena.
Opticore Arena is a visual project management tool that makes digital design development as easy to access, view and control as the traditional 'hands on' design process. It will enable Go Digital judges to thoroughly interrogate each submitted digital model and to see them relative to each other, just as they would in one of their own design program reviews.
Once the judging has been completed the winners will be notified and awarded their prizes of a powerful graphics computer, and the full, $30,000 Realizer software package (with maintenance worth $4,500) whilst attending an all expenses paid visit to the Frankfurt IAA Motor Show press days in September.
An online exhibition of the winning digital design models and the other finalists submissions will then be shown on the Go Digital web site along with some initial details about the forthcoming 2004 Go Digital competition. The finalists initial submissions will not be shown, as these are now being developed further for the final submission and judging in August, but an idea of the breadth and quality of these designs can be seen in part from the assortment of close-ups of the finalists designs shown here.
With just over five weeks until the August 1st deadline, finalists now have to refine their digital models for presentation to the largest ever number of senior automotive design judges for a design competition and the thousands of people around the world who will visit the forthcoming on-line exhibition. Good luck to them!
