Jan 23, 2003 – Could Aston Martin leave Ferrari alone with their V12 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina? The obvious answer is no. Especially now that there is no V12 roadsters being offered by any famous specialists. Sure, Lamborghini are supposed to eventually start production of their Murcielago Roadster but considering the pace of the German-ruled factory there are good chances that car enthusiasts will get their Vanquish Roadster long before the Lambo.

Andrea Zagato of SZ Design along with Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez, are going to unveil their third specialty in a row at the Geneva Motor Show. This time it is going to be a very elegant Aston Martin Vanquish Roadster, with the first prototype being completed in Milano (actually Terrazzano di Rho, very close to the Alfa Romeo Arese plant) for a world première in Geneva on March 2nd.

After the striking success of the AM DB7 Zagato coupe (all 99 units sold have long been delivered) and the AM American Roadster 1 (whose production run, also of 99 units, is just being completed), Dr. Ulrich Bez is changing the strategy and will probably not commit to a limited production of 99 units for the Vanquish but will set a limit to production according to the response of the buying public at and after Geneva.

The Vanquish Roadster is a lot more than a topless coupe. It is a much more sophisticated automobile. Every body panel past the doors is new, typically Zagato and in traditional Nori Harada style. The interior also gets special attention for material and colours with a little Zagato touch.

Even more attractive is the design of a new system that allows the Vanquish Roadster to metamorphose into a coupe in wintertime, much like a Boxster. Obviously, for summer showers, the Vanquish Roadster comes with a practical and user-friendly soft top.
